Writer's Block: Taking It Personally

[Error: unknown template qotd]

I took both tests online.

For the Myers-Briggs test, I got INTP. That means Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, Perceiving. After reading descriptions of this personality type from various sources, I must say that this type does fit me somehow.

These descriptions of the INTP type are what I think do apply to me:

INTPs are detached, analytical observers who can seem oblivious to the world around them because they are so deeply absorbed in thought. They spend much of their time focused internally: exploring concepts, making connections, and seeking understanding. For the INTP, life is an ongoing inquiry into the mysteries of the world around them.

The INTP is typically non-traditional, and more likely to reason out their own unconventional way of doing things than to follow the crowd.

Precise about their descriptions, INTPs will often correct others (or be sorely tempted to) if the shade of meaning is a bit off.

INTPs are relatively easy-going and amenable to almost anything until their principles are violated, about which they may become outspoken and inflexible. They prefer to return, however, to a reserved albeit benign ambiance, not wishing to make spectacles of themselves.

INTPs can be insightful communicators, when the subject inspires them.

INTPs have little appetite for the mundane aspects of life, and may disregard the usual rituals of a relationship. They are rarely interested in tradition, preferring instead to design a lifestyle that makes sense for the parties involved—even if it looks highly unconventional to other people. They are tolerant of individual preferences but will rarely do something because they are told they "should."

INTPs tend to analyze the theory behind everything, and may interpret human interactions with the detached logic of a psychological researcher. They may find others difficult to deal with when they cannot understand the logic behind their behavior. When things get too emotional, they may retreat to their own world of thoughts and ideas.

INTPs want plenty of space in a relationship to explore their own thoughts, ideas, and interests. They value a partner that appreciates their ingenuity and problem-solving ability, and one that understands their need for autonomy.

More likely than other types to study a foreign language

On personality trait measures, score as Candid, Ingenious, Complicated, Independent, and Rebellious
(Ok, the complicated and rebellious part, not so much XD)

I think this is quite accurate, except that this type seems to be aloof around people, and while I may be aloof at times (when in new situations and new people), it's not always that way for me. Also, while I may be a bit rational, I don't think I'm always like that that I become bad at reading other people. In fact, I am quite good at it. Haha. So I think that's the part where I don't quite agree with it. But I do think most of the descriptions do fit me, especially the candid and non-traditional part.

As for the Enneagram, I got Type 7: The Enthusiast. I think this result is accurate as well.

Descriptions of this type that I think best describe me are:

People of this personality type are essentially concerned that their lives be an exciting adventure. Sevens are future oriented, restless people who are generally convinced that something better is just around the corner.

Sevens are enthusiastic about almost everything that catches their attention. They approach life with curiosity, optimism, and a sense of adventure, like “kids in a candy store” who look at the world in wide-eyed, rapt anticipation of all the good things they are about to experience. They are bold and vivacious, pursuing what they want in life with a cheerful determination.

Their thinking is anticipatory: they foresee events and generate ideas “on the fly,” favoring activities that stimulate their minds—which in turn generate more things to do and think about.

Sevens are exhilarated by the rush of ideas and by the pleasure of being spontaneous, preferring broad overviews and the excitement of the initial stages of the creative process to probing a single topic in depth.

Ironically, Sevens' wide-ranging curiosity and ability to learn quickly can also create problems for them. Because they are able to pick up many different skills with relative ease, it becomes more difficult for them to decide what to do with themselves.

On the positive side, however, Sevens are extremely optimistic people—exuberant and upbeat. They are endowed with abundant vitality and a desire to fully participate in their lives each day.

An idealist and visionary, you strive to create a paradise on earth by sharing your vision of love, equality and freedom. A ‘jack of all trades’, you often have diverse skills and interests.

Seeking a positive future with unlimited possibilities, you believe that the sky is the limit. You enjoy new ideas and live in the world of your imagination where you can manifest your dreams.

Again, I think it fits me well, except for the part where it says that they're more extroverted (well, I'm more of an introvert, although I think I'm starting to pick up some extrovert qualities now, too) and non-introspective (I'm definitely introspective). Aside from that I think the other descriptions describe me well, especially the part about being optimistic and wanting excitement and adventure in life :)

Looking at it, I'm not really sure if those two compliment each other, but I do think both fit me well. Anyhow, I'm still in the process of learning more about myself, so I'll check again after a few years. Haha. Till then, I'm fine with this :)
